Cameron Crozman: A passion for French music
Cellist Cameron Crozman shares his passion for French music. With pianist Philip Chiu, two sonatas for cello and piano will be performed.
Cameron Crozman's Biography
Described as a musician of “profound musical imagination” (Toronto Concert Reviews), Cameron Crozman has established himself as one of Canada’s leading young cellists. He plays on the ca. 1696 “Bonjour” Stradivarius cello and the ca. 1830 “Shaw” Adam cello bow generously loaned from the Canada Council for the Arts Instrument Bank. Engagements have taken Cameron to important venues throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, he regularly appears as a soloist with orchestras in Canada and France and has performed with the likes of James Ehnes, André Laplante, James Campbell, and members of the Ébène, St. Lawrence, and New Orford String Quartets. Cameron has collaborated with composers including Kaija Saariaho, Peteris Vasks, and Kelly-Marie Murphy, and has premiered a number of new works dedicated to him. Selected as one of six cellists for Gautier Capuçon’s 2016-17 Classe d’Excellence at the Louis Vuitton Foundation, Cameron holds a Master Degree in cello and chamber music as well as an artist diploma from the Paris Conservatory. Teachers included Michel Strauss, Claire Désert, and Ami Flammer in Paris, and Paul Pulford in Canada. Cameron’s performances have been broadcast on CBC, Radio France, Radio Classique, and medici.tv. He is extremely grateful to the Sylva Gelber Foundation for supporting his numerous endeavors.
Philip Chiu's Biography
Lauded as “…a pianist-painter who turns every musical idea into a beautiful array of colors” (La Presse), Philip Chiu is acclaimed for his brilliant and sensitive playing, as well as his particular ability to connect with audiences on and off stage. Inaugural winner of the $125,000 Prix Goyer, he is more than a summation of technical and musical abilities and has become one of Canada’s leading musicians through his infectious love of music and his passion for communication and collaboration.
He concertizes extensively as soloist and chamber musician, appearing in recitals with leading international musicians including James Ehnes, Regis Pasquier and Raphael Wallfisch. He performs regularly with Jonathan Crow, concertmaster of the Toronto Symphony and Andrew Wan, co-concertmaster of l’Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal. He is a veteran touring artist with Prairie Debut, Jeunesses Musicales Canada, and Debut Atlantic.
Philip has recorded for Warner Music, Analekta, and CBC Music. He can be heard on BBC Radio 3, Australia’s ABC Radio, ICI Musique, and Radio-Canada. He is extremely grateful for the support of the Sylva Gelber Music Foundation and Canada Council for the Arts.
